Description
In this unique arrangement of the traditional British folk song Lincolnshire Poacher, Gordon Langford creates a distinctive soundscape by omitting the cornets entirely. This “no-cornet” setting emphasizes the rich, mellow textures of the middle and lower brass, providing a fresh perspective on a familiar tune. The arrangement is jaunty and characterful, requiring a sense of rhythmic playfulness from the horns, baritones, and trombones. It is an excellent “color” piece for a program, offering a sonic contrast to the full-band sound.
Difficulty 3
(Medium) Fourth year players, or junior high-level students may require these arrangements to be properly challenged. These generally have free use of syncopation as well as section and solo scoring. Cues and cross cues will also be used less.
