Description
Based on the beloved hymn tune “Dix” (famously associated with “For the Beauty of the Earth”), James Curnow’s Prelude on a Hymn of Praise is a celebratory and uplifting fantasy for brass band. The work moves through several distinct variations, exploring the melody through bright fanfares, lyrical woodwind-style passages (in the cornets), and grand, full-ensemble statements. It is a versatile and joyful piece that is equally at home in a sacred service or a secular concert.
